NELSON, VICTORIA

The only limit is your imagination! Nelson is the ideal holiday spot. Boasting the roaring ocean beach, the calmer estuary beach (where you can spot a swan or pelican), and the truly magnificent Glenelg River, of which the last 50km flows gently through the Lower Glenelg National Park.

The Lower Glenelg National Park is an ideal place for picnics, bushwalking, birdwatching, fishing, flat water canoeing, swimming, snorkelling and water skiing. The Glenelg River and it's surrounding National Park has a superb array of wildlife. Various fauna includes kangaroos, red necked wallabies, possums and platypus.

Fishing is plentiful in both the river and off the ocean beach. Many mulloway, bream and mullet are caught in the river, while schools of salmon, gummy shark, whiting, mullet and enormous mulloway cruise just off the surf beach.

The town centre of Nelson is a short 10 minute walk from Casuarina Cabins, and hosts a pub, post office, general store, roadhouse, river cruises and canoe hire. A quick two minute walk from the cabins will take you to the Glenelg river, where there are many jetties from which to fish, boat ramps to launch vessels and magnificent natural cliff formations.

The 250km Great South-West Walk passes nearby the cabins, allowing for some great afternoon strolls through the National Park, alongside the river.

In our own front garden at Casuarina Cabins is a significant piece of local history - part of the capstan (turntable) which, powered by horses, used to draw a punt across the river.
